I had never attempted doing exercises for my neck as worried I may do some more damage and sent for this book. It is very well laid out and instructions are easy to follow with photographs. I recommend reading it all before starting. I have found an improvement in my condition it really works if done daily, but have a break if its sore. Do not overdo it and you will be okay. My necks shot at c5 c6 c7 and brobasilar dissection so I was very wary and do not let physios anywhere near my neck. This way I can control what’s best for me. I would recommend this to anyone you have nothing to lose and loads to gain for a cheap price.

This has to be the single, most useful and important book that I’ve ever bought. It does exactly what it says in the title and was used in conjunction with physiotherapy (my physiotherapist recommended I buy this book). My pain (neck, shoulder and numbness down to and including my thumb) was resolved within a month using the techniques described and illustrated in this book.

I bought this book after I had an x-ray and cervical MRI of my neck showing that I I had a straightening of my neck. I had severe pain in the left side of my neck. Long story short I was prescribed physical therapy, which was a joke. Chiropractor, which I love don’t get me wrong, was a joke. I purchased this book for the $9.00 and followed it to a T and within 3 weeks my pain was gone! This is after three months or more of severe pain and spasms in my neck. I kid you not. At first I was very discouraged. I thought it wasn’t working but the key is to absolutely follow the routine and it will get better. It did for me. The one exercise that was excruciating for me was to tilt my head all the way back. I could not do it at first. I had to lay on my bed to do that exercise. This book is a must for those with neck pain. I saved hundreds of dollars and wasted days by purchasing this book.

This is a remarkable book which tells you just about everything that you need for straightforward ‘do it yourself’ treatments for neck-ache. I bought the book on 1st March 2016 and have performed the treatments described almost every day since then. (As I write this review on 2nd April, I am continuing with the exercises.) Before I started, my neck was extremely painful and made some awful crunching sounds. Since then, the crunching has steadily reduced and now I can only slightly hear it. And the pain has reduced considerably. I shall certainly continue with daily treatments as time permits in the hope that soon the remaining pain and crunching both go away. I shall keep hold of the book in case I need it again to help me deal with any repeats of the neck-pain.

I rarely write reviews. I should, just don’t have/make the time. But this book changed my life after nothing else worked and I was literally minutes from surgery. I had injured my C7-T1 disk such that it was significantly herniated and pressing on the C8 nerve root. For 3 months, I went to physical therapy, slept in a chair every night in a weird position that provided some relief, and saw various pain specialists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons. When nothing helped I scheduled a keyhole laminectomy with a world-renowned neurosurgeon. At the same time, a family member who had neck issues (he is also a radiologist) urged me to try this book before getting surgery. Having had 2 lower back surgeries in the past, I was familiar with the greatly unpleasant process of recovering from spinal surgery and was willing to anything to avoid it. But I was risking permanent nerve damage by delaying much further. So I kept my surgery date and started the McKenzie Method immediately and with all my vigor as soon as the book arrived. To me, this book was worth, literally, at least 1,000 times its price (considering just the costs of surgery and physical therapy, and not including all the pain and suffering it saved me). It explains in the perfect amount of detail exactly what is happening and why, allowing the reader to understand the problem and how the exercises work to treat the problem, helping the reader visualize the cure while doing the exercises. After 2 weeks of doing the exercises, my pain had subsided considerably, but I still showed up for surgery because it was not entirely gone, and I felt that the dexterity and strength I lost in my left hand due to the nerve compression had not returned. I was in the pre-op room at the hospital, in my gown, nurses and anesthesiologist coming in and prepping. Then my surgeon walks in with a team of med students behind him, eager to observe the procedure. He runs through the series of simple tests we had done during office visits (squeeze his fingers to test strength, etc.), and then he tells me that the surgery is off. He said I had shown such great improvement in such a short amount of time that it is clearly evidence of recovery that he expected to continue without risking further nerve damage. I refer to it as the best surgery I never had, and I truly believe that I owe it to the McKenzie Method. Thank you, thank you, thank you Robin McKenzie. This was over 3 years ago. Although I made a full recovery without surgery, I have had occasional (maybe once every 6 months) minor relapses (pain in the neck and shoulder blade, sometimes a little numbness in the pinkie). Immediately upon onset of the pain, I use the exercises in the book and the pain goes away (usually within the day, but sometimes a couple of days). I have also purchased McKenzie’s book for the lower back and try to follow its wisdom regularly. It, too, is very well written. I tend to be one of those readers who wants to flip to the exercises, which are in the middle-back of both books. But after reading both books multiple times, I can verify that there is great benefit to starting on page 1 and reading through. At least in my case, the explanation of the anatomy, movement, and problems was spot on, and therefore provided a calming effect. The explanation of the movement of pain during recovery while doing the exercises was equally spot on, and greatly encouraging.

This is a book that anyone who has had/has a neck problem should buy. The exercises are so simple and they work! I have been visiting Chiropractors and physio’s for donkeys years and spending a fortune to have my neck manipulated as it regularly got ‘locked’ and uncomfortable, I was contemplating going again until I bought this book, the effect of the exercises which can be done anywhere has been amazing! I am going to buy the back book as well to ward off problems, cant recommend it highly enough.

My GP was dismissive about my quite acute sudden onset neck pain. I was dismissed with some poorly reproduced minimal and indistinct photocopied sheets and told to look on the net, which proved useless. A physiotherapist friend recommended this book which, although unable to effect a cure, did clarify the background to the condition and gave me a constructive program to control the symptoms. I feel it is an absolute must for any neck sufferer frustrated by any proper guidance from normal sources as to how to manage their condition.

The simple instructions in this book helped me self-treat my excruciating neck pain that was due to some injury and then prolonged bad posture. This will only help if the source of your pain is musculoskeletal (i.e. soft tissue damage). I experienced improvement within 1 week, and was practically pain-free within 2 months. I’m now able to resume my previous exercise routine without problems, I don’t wake up with a stiff neck anymore, and my instances of headaches have gone down as well.

This book has been a God send and the exercises work. I had 3 years of physio, acupuncture and chiropractor which only gave temporary relief for a permanent whiplash injury. Without the McKenzie exercises every day I would be crippled with pain. Thank you so much and thank you that your book is available online.

This book literally saved me from cervical surgery. Took about a month to completely free my neck ( I have psoriatic arthritis and my neck has been bad for years). Now I have great range of motion, no numbness in arms, no pain. If a little pain or stiffness rear their head I do the exercises on impulse, and it literally restores my range within a day.

My surgeon told me my neck was one of the worst he’s seen – bone spurs, nerve impingement, 2 very degenerated discs ( I was 1 inch shorter at 40 yrs old than when I was in college). Said surgery wasn’t IF BUT WHEN. It’s been probably 5 years since and I thank God for Robyn Mackenzie’s accidental discovery of this treatment. Buy the book, do it, and you will see.

Amazing book – by Robin McKenzie, I highly recommend. Lots of helpful photos & diagrams, easy book to read a little at a time, it’s fab if you don’t want chapters and chapters of unnecessary waffle. Totally described my pain (arthritis in neck) and the simple exercises it recommends really do help. It’s a slim A5 size that fits in your handbag if you wanted to read whilst travelling! There is also one called “Treat Your Own Back” which I’ll also be buying!

I rarely ever take the time to write reviews unless the experience has been overwhelmingly bad or overwhelmingly awesome. Luckily, the experience I had from utilizing the information in this book has been the latter. Just amazing!!! I was ready to go back to my chiropractor to get my neck adjusted. Years of bad posture and “tech neck.” I saw the reviews of this book and I definitely was like, oh man, I’m such a sucker but I’ll try. Best decision I’ve made in a while! The more you do the exercises, the better! But I cannot adequately express just how much better my neck is. Pain is almost completely gone after just a couple of weeks and my range of motion is dramatically better! But remember, if your original problems stem from bad posture, you need to be diligent about improving that. Best of luck!
